The Experiences of Ethical Consultants
This qualitative dissertation explores the experiences of ethical consultants who worked with organizations in the post-COVID workplace through the lens of ethical leadership theory. Guided by a generic qualitative design, the study examines how eight ethical consultants—recruited from the United States across sectors such as corporate, healthcare, non-profit, and governmental organizations—navigated complex ethical dilemmas, shaped organizational culture, and influenced employee outcomes. Using semi-structured, Zoom-based interviews and thematic analysis, the research highlights how ethical consultants promoted transparency, fairness, integrity, and accountability, while also emphasizing the importance of adaptability, communication, empathy, and generational responsibility in supporting ethical decision-making during and after the pandemic. The findings show that ethical consultants played a pivotal role in aligning organizational values with employee values, contributing to job satisfaction, motivation, and engagement, while also informing practical insights for leadership development, training programs, and ethical organizational practices in a rapidly changing environment.
